"We purchased the Explorer for safety and cargo space, but I have to admit that I am highly disappointed in the quality of materials used to build this vehicle. The leather on the interior is poor quality and is VERY easily scuffed and marked. I have had leather interiors in my vehicles for over 15 years, mostly GM and Volvo, and I have NEVER had the scuffs and scrapes that I've had in this Ford. Tossing a nylon backpack (with covered zippers) in the back seat should NOT scratch the leather. Additionally, the synthetic material used near the shoulder portion of the seatbelt scraped when my son accidently bumped it with his golf hat. The exterior material is thin and dents easily; it's like aluminum foil. I intentionally park far away from other cars because I am afraid it will get ding'd. Honestly, the materials on a $40K vehicle should not be such poor quality, this cheap. While the design and cargo space of the vehicle is initially attractive, I am regretful that we purchased it. Ford would have been better off using its financial resources beefing up the quality of the materials used instead of loading it up with electronic gadgets. I will not be recommending Ford to others."
