As they say, "Watch this space". This 1960 Valiant Wagon bought as a restore project is in need of some work. Typical
of most any slant six car, it's ready to run. The body has a few issues, being 50 years old this month, it has taken a
few hits. Compact car when built, the Valiant now falls into the mid to full sized range. Fuel mileage in the mid 20s is
nothing to write home about these days, but compared to the 12 MPG monsters of its day, the Valiant and sister car the
Dodge Lancer where economy cars. Handling is good, of course keep in mind that good handling is a relative term. A new
mini-van could run the wheels off a 60 Corvette on a road course. Nice smooth ride, and is a quiet car on the
freeway. Good amount of interior room for four full sized people. This is one point where the old Valiant shines over
most new cars. Real rear seat leg room. For those that might be thinking about one for their garage. As with any car
approaching the half century mark. Be sure you check or have checked your purchase. Have the resources for the extra
demands that any car this old will throw at you. That being said, a Valiant is a great pick in a classic car. Many parts
can be used from much newer Valiant, Dart, Aspen offerings from Chrysler. For the most part, finding bits and pieces for
a Valiant is not a big problem. Also, you will find that if the original power output is a little low, there are many
upgrades for the old slant six. Moving from the less that 100 H.P. to near 200 is a matter of bolt on manifolds, and
cutting as much as 100/1000s of the thick head. Good pick for a classic that needs to serve as a regular driver.
