I purchased my 2003 Echo in December of 2002. It was the first new car I ever bought and had 22 miles on it when I drove it off the lot. I opted for simplicity since I was a college student with not much money to spend on a car. I have manual locks and windows, which really doesn't bother me at all. My friends tease me, but the motor will never break! I get AMAZING gas mileage, which really helps with such high gas prices.
I now have about 126k miles on "Shirley" and she is still going strong! I plan on driving this car until I can't drive it anymore. I'm aiming for 200,000 miles, but I bet it will make it past that.
I have had very minimal problems with this car. Just recently the stablizer bar broke, which sounded pretty scary, but wasn't dangerous. Before that, I can't remember the last time I had an issue with it. It's extremely reliable and suprisingly good on snow for something with such small tires. The small tires are another perk...smaller tires = smaller prices to replace.
I will say this car has a lot of road noise, but most of my driving is in the city and it's not an issue. It gets a bit loud on the interstate, but nothing unbearable.
If you are considering a used Echo (since they don't make these anymore), I highly recommend it. Cute, dependable and after 10 years owning mine, I can definitely say long-lasting!
