Question: Too pricey or about right?

I took my 2004 Olds Alero (app150,000) to the mechanic. They ran the inspection and said it had no oil because the gasket is leaking (last change Oct). Also, there was no coolant because two leaks. The gaskets and other parts / labor would be $2000. I think this is high for the repair??

I plan on taking it to another mechanic for an inspection to see what they say needs done. Also, the odometer no longer shows the mileage and the Service Engine light will not stay off.
I hesitate to spend that kind of money when the car isn't worth that much but I have other responsibilities that prevent me from getting in to car payments at this time.
