Question: Should I replace the water pump at the same time as the Timing Belt on my '05 Sienna?

Should I replace the water pump at the same time as the Timing Belt on my '05 Sienna?

I have a 2005 Toyota Sienna XLE that has just reached 90,000 miles. I know that I need to get the timing belt replaced, but should I have the water pump replaced, too?

I read an online forum where another '05 Sienna owner was told that the water pump for this model is electric and does not need to be replaced as part of the maintenance schedule. Is this true?

Absolutly! The dealer will charge you too much, so look for a trusted independent mechanic. Mine cost me only $650.

Sorry, I missed a couple of things in reading you note. In regards to your milage: my 2002 Sienna was the one I had the timing belt change with the water pump. Good you pointed out the "electric" water pump, so I'm going to look into that to that as well. I had a used 2002 Sienna (98,000 mile & no history on vehichle), so I did the change at 120,00 miles
I also awned a 1998 Sienna b4 that and had over a 120,000 miles on it when I traded it in for the 2002. I hade not yet yet made a new timing belt change in the 1998 and I had that since new. Hope my info helps you decide on the timing belt part.

Car Brakes: How Do You Know When to Change Them?

By Zach Bowman For those who suffer a daily commute through heavy traffic, your vehicle's braking system can bring thousands of pounds of metal, plastic and empty Starbucks cups to a stop hundreds of times before you get to work. It goes without saying that these pieces wear out, but they do so slowly, meaning you may not notice they need attention until ...
