Question: Problem with convertible mechanism

I have had this car for <1 year and assume it was a lease or little used as mileage was low. Recently I went to raise covertible top and the rear flaps lifted but nothing else. I amnually raised it to close the car then later had the opportunity to try it again. It opens fine, closing from fully open is nonexistent. Closing from partial works ok- such as if I half opened it then decided to close it. Any suggestions on what might be causing this and how to self repair??
