Question: fuel in the overflow space?

i bought this car 2 weeks ago last week the fuel pump went out got the jag dealer to fix it. this week the check engine light comes on and diagnostic said it was an emissions warning and fuel pressure warning. but it was drivable and being the holiday weekend i drove it to the gas station only to find that under the lid there was a large puddle of gas. whats causing this?
