Question: 2001 Saturn SC2 timing belt / chain non-interferance?

Am considering purchasing this car. Only familiar w/ Honda / Acura timing BELTS and they are definitely not "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" items. Is the SC2 the same? Is it CHAIN or BELT? Can you wait to change CHAIN when it breaks? How much to fix? One site said $400 average and another said $75
