1988 Avanti Convertible   . . . . .
I have owned this car for 5 years now. The 1988 convert is on a Monte Carlo SS chassis, some 88 convert where on the
Caprice chassis since GM was phasing out the Monte Carlo in 1988 replacing it with the Caprice in 1989. If your gas cap
for the convert is on top behing the rear window you have the Monte Carlo chassis, if the gas cap is on the side you
have the Caprice chassis. The 88 coupes were on a El Camino chassis. Go to any GM dealer to get parts or service on the
chassis. The interior is another thing. Avanti Motors did not make alot of extra parts for the interior nor did they
keep good records of where the parts they used came from. Hardly a day goes by when I'm driving the car that I dont get
asked "What a beautiful car" or "what is this car" or both questions. The car is fiberglass with leather interior. It
has a 305 motor which is not bad would rather have had a 350 but all GM offered in the 1988 Monte Carlo SS was a 305.
